🏝️ The Islanders - Music Event
Event Details
Join us in the yard at REinsTate for the first edition of a new event series — showcasing reggae, roots and global sounds in a historic East London landmark.
Before 1850, Silvertown and North Woolwich were little more than marshland — bleak stretches of grazing ground, much of it below sea level and often swallowed by the tide. Then, in the nineteenth century, the industries arrived: shipbuilding, silver, iron, oils, soap, rubber and manure. On the edge of London, a new community took root, forged by the workers who powered this industrial frontier. They proudly called themselves The Islanders.
Now, as The Tate Institute — the social club built in 1887 for Islanders and their friends and families — is brought back to life, we celebrate that spirit of solidarity again via an all-dayer of live music, food, love, funity and community; honouring the past while creating new memories in the same space.
Tickets: £10 online / £12 on the door.

One vibe. One band. One sound. Let me hear you say JAM HOUSE! Following their mega recent single, The League of Rebelz bring their unique generational reggae to reclaim the space and share their fusion of sounds.
- MARCUS & THE MICRODOTS
A psychedelic reggae band led by Marcus Upbeat, sharing positive musical vibes that draw on core influences from late 60s and 1970s reggae. Having been envisaged in a dream state one night, the band has built a strong following on the UK festival circuit before recording their debut album Earth Songs in 2017, which was released on the Blue Beat label.
- SALSA
A very special local surprise…!
- DEBBIE GOLT
Broadcaster and DJ, Debbie first cut her DJ teeth spinning records at Rock Against Racism gigs in 1977/78 but her passion for music goes back to listening to early Beatles, Stones, Animals and then seeking the roots of the music they popularised. Then it was seeing Motown artists on Top of the Pops and listening to Radio Caroline under the covers when she was supposed to be sleeping. Politicised from an early age, Debbie is a champion of women’s music and achievements and is chair of Women in Music but as ever seeking new musical delights and sharing them with others remains central to her being…which is definitely good news for the rest of us.
- DJ SHERINNE
Experimentally minded and experienced DJ, fusing Reggae, Dancehall, Ska, Funk, Disco and Hip Hop.
- LOOSE EGUSI
Look forward to Afro Disco full of indestructible rhythms and infectious energy, all on glorious wax - from the Soho Radio & Boat Pod radio host and infamous poet.
