A Victorian community hub currently being restored in Silvertown, East London, originally built by Sir Henry Tate in 1887 for sugar factory workers.

This historic building will feature:

  • Enterprise Hub - Collaborative workspace for social enterprises and start-ups
  • Workshop & Event Spaces - Flexible areas for community workshops, meetings, and cultural events
  • Creative Studios - Affordable workspace for artists and makers
  • Community Garden - Outdoor growing spaces and green areas
  • Subsidised Café - Social gathering space with affordable refreshments

Using reclaimed materials, this sustainable, net-zero carbon space combines heritage conservation with cutting-edge sustainability. Part of the ReSpace Alliance network, all spaces operate on proven principles: accessible, collaborative, and designed to "reuse waste, reduce inequality, and rebuild community."

Join us for the first international chess tournament at The Tate Institute as we host the Silvertown FIDE Congress. Organised by Adam Raoof IA and colleagues, this weekend tournament welcomes players across four groups, featuring Under 2400, Under 1900, and Under 1600 FIDE sections, alongside an ECF Under 1400 section. You will compete for guaranteed cash prizes under a time control of 60 minutes per player per game plus 30 seconds a move added. Please note that you must write the game down throughout. Come along to test your strategy, meet fellow players, and enjoy the competitive atmosphere in our historic venue.
